Its been a long time...

Im absolutely horrible at keeping up with this blog...I think it's mostly because I do most of my updating through my phone and I hate the blogger mobile site...wah..anyhow, my husband keeps getting onto me about restarting the blog..so maybe I should take the time to do that. The last few months have been crazy, nothing but work..and with Christmas a week away, it's gonna be even more insane. Oh the loveliness of managing a retail mall store. I promise to get back on track with this within the new year, Im trying to make lots of changes so It'll help me. In the meantime I do happen to have an instagram if you would like to follow, you can find me listed under the name NEKROGHOUL! So go ahead and follow me!

Chair redo

Just had a storm and our power is out so I'm posting this from my phone. Went and bought some vinyl today to redo my thrift store cosco like chair and stool combo. It came out pretty good for my first ever chair redo lol. Now to take on a set of four diner chairs once I get paid.

Thrifting Finds!

I drove down to the area I grew up in today to do a little thrifting and visit my dad and I think I did a pretty good job picking some stuff up. Actually, I had been to this local thrift shop last Saturday because my sister mentioned them having an Elvis bust lamp for sale, and I COULD NOT pass it up. I didn't have the money at the time and just hoped that by the time the hubby's pay went through today that it would still be there. Upon waking this morning, he called to see if it was still available and the girl on the other end said yes, but today was probably going to be the last day it was there since it was on consignment.Lemme tell you, I moved....I got ready as fast as I could. Seriously, I think within 5 minutes...hey, when you want something bad....your ass moves lol, and drove the 40 mins down to check it out. As soon as we got there, we ran in and grabbed it. Now, upon turning I also noticed a bullet planter and knew I needed to grab it as well...decided to look around a little more to see what else he got in since the beginning of the week and grabbed this cosco esque stool. $5 for the stool, $14 for the planter. Hell yeah! The lamp was a bit more....$50 but hey, they go for upwards of a few hundred on ebay and craigslist without the original shade...so I think I did well. Walking out the door I noticed he has a some Don Featherstone flamingos on the top shelf with the original box....they're not from the 50's, infact I think they're the 30 year anniversary repos..but they're still the originals, in the box and hey, they're still 25 years old. So I grabbed those as well. Pretty successful shop. I came home, grabbed some soap, water, steel wool and got to work on the stool, it had a decent amount of rust on it..but it cleaned up real nice...the only thing I need to do is touch up the steps, there's some paint drips on them and replace the seat..theres a small tear in it. I was thinking of buying some sparkle vinyl and redoing the seat and back this weekend, shouldn't take much or too long. I'm not sure of the year or make, but for $5 I couldn't pass it up. Once it's complete I'll post more pics, but for now..here's some shots from when I bought the stuff.

1952 RCA Victor Console TV

So, I've been in search for a 1950's console tv for awhile now...well, kinda browsing, not avidly searching. Everyone that I came across was either way too much money, on ebay and pickup only states away, or missing dials, etc. I took some time off work and went to Florida with family and once I came back I just got the urge to search ebay and craigslist to see if anything caught my eye. Ebay....yes, a pick up only $30 current bid, no reserve Predicta a few hours away in PA. In the end, it sold for over $400 which was WAY out of a my price range. So heading over to Craigslist...nothing...until I came across an ad in Cherry Hill, which is right near me.....$50 vintage tv...I clicked on it and was like...OK GOTTA CALL. We went over to check it out the next day and the guy was super nice..told us he got it from an estate of a guy he knew....told us it worked, plugged it in and there was that static vintage tv sound....obviously since this day and age everything is digital, there was no picture, however I'm sure if hooked to a digital box and accompanied by rabbit ears there would be one, but eh...I didnt really plan on using it as a tv to begin with. Truth be told, I wanted to go the way of converting to a fish tank, or something to those likes. Anyhow, I purchased it and then came the how the hell am I getting this home problem. I drive a VW bug, so that obviously was out of the question, luckily one of the guys my husband works with said he'd help so they picked it up the following day. It's now sitting in my livingroom waiting to claim it's space infront of the tv wall...but I need to paint first. I've been trying to research things, but havent found too much about converting a vintage tv into a modern day one... I think maybe two articles. I did however come across one where someone mentioned about removing the picture tube, etc and putting a flatpanel inside...which honestly if I can make work, is probably what I will be doing so I can use it on a daily basis. Another cool thing about the tv, the guy who the person got it from after he passed was the original owner, he purchased the tv in September 1952 and has every single piece of paperwork that came with the tv, service papers etc. It's so interesting to see...something purchased in the early 50's still being serviced in the 70's. Anyhow, I love it...it matches my end tables and will look fab once placed. If anyone has converted a vintage console tv using the flatpanel inside method..or knows anyone who has, or any places online to read up on...let me know. The more info the better before I take stuff apart, lol.

Apartment Renovating

Well, I'm starting to renovate the apartment and it's turning out amazing!I figure..if I can't have my 50's rancher just yet, I'm gonna do everything I can to make my apartment "me". Anyhow..I was fortunate enough to have our antique lady contact us about a mid century sofa about 3 weeks ago...she was at a church sale and thought of us, i asked if she was able to get pictures and when i opened my text messages i nearly freaked....it was perfect! the pictures werent that great but from what i saw i wanted it...mauve, typical 50's style and print and wide arms. score! BEST PART it was only $65 bucks!!!!!! We went to pick it up 3 days later and to my surprise I lifted up the cushions and IT'S A KROEHLER!!! A Kroehler Galaxy 4 piece sectional and it's in awesome condition! I couldnt be anymore lucky. So the only thing left to complete my livingroom is a vintage tv stand...OR if I'm lucky enough a vintage tv console cabinet and a few more accessories and I'm set. I need to pick up more paint before it's finished but I can show what's done as of now. I also redid my kitchen cabinets/dining section and started laying checkered tiles. Next up is finishing the bedroom, all that needs done is painting and curtains hung. I put my large 50's square armchair in the bedroom since it didn't fit in the livingroom with the new sectional and it looks great with my 50's bedset. Can't wait to get 100% complete...then I'll make a HUGE post...but for now, here's what I did today...
I'm in love! LOL Oh...and how about a new photo of me...
<3<3<3<3 If you're ever in the Southern NJ area and close to Millville, Bridgeton, Vineland.. Look up Three Greys Antiques....best place around to find treasures and my personal favorite! Debbie, the owner, is awesome, super nice and will help find anything for ya!
